I tried to keep as close as I could to the original colour scheme and layout for this image, with a couple of liberties taken here and there.
So the main focus for this stage of my process is to firstly establish where my light source is coming from. From the original image, it's coming from the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, so I stuck with that. I'll work at getting the shading and highlights in the right places, and adding detail where required (such as the shadows on the walls and the effects on the puddles/bucket).
I'm also continually editing my piece as I go along. For example, I didn't like having such heavy black lines for the floor tiles with the marble effect, so I've lightened those and reduce their opacity. The walls were also looking rather bare, so I've placed some paintings in the background to break up the white.
And that's my process, I don't imagine it'll be helpful in any way. It's just a look into my strange little world, I guess.
Thank you, I'm not as happy as I have been with some of my other works in terms of the character/pose/shading on the character itself, though I'm much happier with other areas of the background.
And besides, it was mainly a demonstration of my process.
Well, I'd say you've got a harder job than I have, then!
Not to mention the sheer 'tip of the hat' you get for animating something, you've got to try and come up with a concept, and consider shading and effects into the space of a few pixxels. It's impressive stuff, to say the least.
I know how hard my MS Paint stuff was to do, and thankfully I've moved on from that!

But thank you for the compliment!
Not To mention this one had beautiful colouring, far better than disney any day.
Heck this (The Shading) is what Im trying to get into mine (Emote related)

Especially like the light colour to the floor tiles, your lines are so thin and neat - mine always too thick. Love the frames on the wall.
My only question is the paintings? will you be completing them or leaving blank? Think completing them might distract from the main action.
Yes that bucket is one to be proud of, nice wood effect.
